Good news for AFSCME members who work at AmeriCorps, the federal agency that provides service opportunities for Americans to improve their communities.

After months of activism, members of AFSCME Local 2027 (District Council 20) have notched a victory in their fight to protect the public services they provide and stop the illegal firing of AmeriCorps workers, which started back in April.

Following a legal victory last week, AmeriCorps on Thursday informed AmeriCorps staff that the previous layoffs have been canceled. Employees of the agency will soon begin returning to work, where they will be able to continue to connect Americans in need with critical services and support.

After the legal win, AFSCME Local 2027 President Kelly Daly said, “We have dedicated our careers to public service, helping working families nationwide recover from disasters, escape poverty and support themselves for the long term. We’re not just fighting for jobs — we’re fighting for the people who depend on us every day.”

This victory by AFSCME AmeriCorps members is just another example of how, when AFSCME members come together, our voices can’t be ignored.

This fight may not yet be over, but AFSCME will continue to stand against any attack on our jobs and the essential services that sustain our communities.
