AFSCME celebrates passage of the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act
WASHINGTON — Following House passage of the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, AFSCME President Lee Saunders released this statement:
“Pregnant workers continue to face discrimination and be subjected to unsafe conditions in the workplace that both hurts their careers and puts their children at risk. No one should have to choose between their financial security, their own safety and the life of their children. This bill ensures that pregnant workers will receive protections and rights on the job and will address longstanding health and economic injustices that disproportionately hurt women well into parenthood. We applaud the House of Representatives for passing this important legislation to protect the health and safety of pregnant workers, and we urge the Senate to follow suit.”
