AFSCME’s Saunders: With a pro-worker trifecta, Abigail Spanberger’s victory will strengthen the voice of Virginia’s working families
WASHINGTON – AFSCME President Lee Saunders released the following statement after Virginians elected Abigail Spanberger to be the commonwealth’s next governor and an expanded pro-worker majority in the House of Delegates:
“Like AFSCME members across Virginia, Abigail Spanberger has dedicated her career to supporting her neighbors. She’s fought to lower costs for families, expand access to health care, strengthen public education and improve the vital services Virginians rely on every day. Crucially, Governor-elect Spanberger understands that our communities depend on the public service workers who keep them running. Now, with a pro-worker governor and pro-worker majorities in both chambers of the legislature, AFSCME members can look forward to being provided the resources they need to deliver for their communities, to workers’ voices being protected on the job, and the freedom to join a union being expanded across the state. We look forward to working with Governor-elect Spanberger and the legislature to make this happen.”
